Title: Engineering Manager

Salary: £62,000

Location: Hull

Hours of work: Monday to Friday 7.00am to 4.00pm, 40 hours per week

Our client is a one of the UK's leading fresh food producers with a rich history in farm to fork production.
From investments, organic growth and good old fashion Yorkshire pragmatism their business has gone from strength to strength throughout the years. As the business has grown their purpose has remained the same, which is to feed the nation with authentically made, sustainably produced food.
Today you will be joining a business that has state of the art production facilities, industry leading innovation and passionate teams that has led our client to be one of the UK's leading fresh food producers.
As part of the growth of the business they have invested in a new site based in Hull which was developed in 2021. They are now seeking a skilled and experienced Engineering Manager to lead, manage and develop their engineering team.

THE ROLE:
Manage the planned preventative maintenance systems and culture for all areas including PPM schedules for all plant and equipment, management of data regarding machine breakdowns, fault analysis and update of PPM procedures
Ensure that operational efficiencies and effectiveness are continuously improved with consequential reduced operating costs
Ensure that quality, health and safety and environmental standards are developed, maintained and enhanced and are fully complied with by contractors and staff
Lead, coach and develop staff to ensure capability to deliver current and future business objectives
Maintain and develop the environment and plant including heating, ventilation, fire protection equipment and plant, pipework and plumbing, alarm systems, security systems to ensure a safe working environment for all staff and visitors
Timely and accurately support communications between the shifts.
Ensure equipment operates at a standard in order to achieve the customer's required product specification
Technical input to assist in the delivery of projects and initiatives which will impact the profitability of the business.
Maintenance and development of operating standards:
- Health & Safety
- Housekeeping / hygiene

Control the activities of contract labour and inspect the quality of their work.
Supervise engineering staffs' activities during production morning start up.
Plan weekend maintenance and ensure spares are available in advance
Co-ordinate workshop activities.
Work with technical on all audit work
Attend major breakdowns
Play an active part in the site's Health and Safety committee
Co-ordinate the engineering shift's work activities
Continually appraise staff performance and take appropriate actions when required
Deal with staff issues with discretion and confidentially
Manage holidays to ensure correct manning levels at all times
Work closely with the Health & Safety officer on issues of machine guarding and safety
Work closely with the line manager on the recruitment and selection of staff
Provide support to the line manager on projects, NPD work, customer lead work and budget control and department strategic issues
Be conversant with four strategic pillars (QVIP). Champion this within the department and the wider site
To respect and honour the sentiment of the company ethical policies and codes of conduct, when interacting with your colleagues at all times
Adhere to all rules, processes and procedures in relation to the work
As part of your role and the activities within your role. You are responsible to ensure you carry out your activities in such a way which ensures the foods we produce under your control are done so, that deliver and safeguard Food Safety & Quality. That compliance to relevant Legislation & Legal requirements are upheld at all times and that the foods produced along with the controls undertaken by you and your teams, is done so with absolute Integrity at all times

Working hours of Monday to Friday 7.00am to 4.00pm, 40 hours per week.


THE CANDIDATE:

Qualifications:

Group and site induction.
Level 3 in Food Safety
Level 3 in H&S. Either IOSH Managing Safely or Cranswick equivalent


Experience / Knowledge:
All relevant risk assessments and safe working procedures are reviewed and to current methods.
Hazards and near miss reporting training.
Accident investigation training
Proven experience in managing engineering teams
Previous experience within a food manufacturing environment, preferably within the meat industry
Have a solid understanding of operation/function and repair of all machinery on site and plant and associated equipment.
